Okuma
Great news from Okuma High Performance Tackle. The development team has a great new rod line ready to hit the shelves around the beginning of the year, and if you want an advanced concept rod with all the high tech features out there, get ready for the new Okuma C3 rods. I was introduced to the rods a few months ago. Though they were not production models, the prototypes were unbelievable. I've had a fantastic year fishing with the Guide Select and EVX series rods, but am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new C3's. Carbon Cone Concept, with through blank reels seats. The new handles are lightweight and tacky to give you the right amount of grip. They also flaunt super fast actions and the best part; they are lighter than air. I'm not exaggerating, these rods are incredibly light. Expect the same lifetime warranty offered on the EVX and Guide Select rods, and be amazed by the prices. Expected retail is to be around $150. Get ahold of one when they hit the shelves, if I haven't put them all in my boat. There is a complete article on Okuma's C3 rods at the Tackle Tour website.

Vicious Fishing
JBS and Vicious Fishing have lots of exciting news for 2009. New products on the bass fishing side include the All Purpose line and Braid. As with the rest of the traditional lines Vicious makes, the All Purpose will line up with the Fluorocarbon and Ultimate co-polymer in size. All three will have the same diameters relating to line weight. This is a great feature to have for tournament anglers. You can practice with the high quality, super strong Ultimate, and then switch to Fluorocarbon for the tournament and see very little difference in lure action and running depth due to uniform line size. The new All Purpose maintains a lot of the characteristics of monofilament, but uses the ACT fusion process to increase strength compared to other line. Also new this year is the Braid. It's made from Spectra fiber, and built to last multiple seasons in the toughest conditions. No stretch, and microscopic diameter make this the ultimate line for heavy cover or big fish.
Under Armour
With the onset of the cold weather here in MIchigan, it's time to donn the extras and face the chill. The good news is that with the help of Under Armour, you can stay warmer than you ever thought, and never know you were wearing the stuff. That's right, there is something better for being toasty. Under Armour has designed 3 new Base Layers to go with their already well known Cold Gear. Form fitting, yet extremely comfortable, Cold Gear protects you from winter with technology that is out of this world. I have spent hundreds on thermals over the years, and never managed to stay warm. But my Cold Gear fights off the chills. You truly have to experience it to see the difference. And if staying warm isn't enough, maybe you just want to look good. They have a new line of Hunting and Fishing outerwear and gear designed to keep you comfortable in the Arctic or the Sahara, and have you looking like a Pro Jock every time out. Even better, they are offering free shipping on orders of $99 or more for a short time. Shipping is usually only a few days, so you can still have it in time for some late season deer hunting, or ice fishing. Email me if you have any specific questions about the products.
Live Target
Perch, Craw, and Shiner found me cashing checks at 3 out of 5 BFL's, as well as a win in the BAU St. Clair. I have been thoroughly impressed with their lifelike designs and quality construction. So, I'm excited to introduce the new additions to the bass lineup. There will be a bigger model of the Craw, running to depths of 10 feet, and a shallower "wake" style in the same colors introduced last year. In keeping with that design, Koppers has also developed another lipless vibe bait with the same look as the Craw, that should really shake up those summer hawgs. For early season, there is a new smelt jerkbait with two colors guaranteed to stun the smallies, and a match the hatch crankbait that looks just like a baby bronzeback. Expect to see these fish catching lures on shelves by February.

A Note From the Designer:
Okay - I won't pretend to know a thing about fishing.... but I have to admit - the work I did with Kdawg.net was truly great. I mean, come on, these guys are funny! I really enjoyed getting to know what goes on out on the water, and I have developed a great appreciation for all that these Anglers do. Everyone has a passion right? Cheers to all the guys this spring, when they dust off their boats and get back out there. Happy Fishing!
